The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced many Missouri businesses to furlough or lay off workers. It also led the federal government to provide unemployment benefits to those impacted by the pandemic.

However, federal unemployment benefits programs are no longer available in Missouri. As such, Missouri residents who have relied on unemployment benefits during the pandemic may face a steep financial burden.

Fortunately, the Missouri job market is improving. Research indicates Missouri’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment totaled 2.8 million as of May 2021, up 6,000 month over month.

Furthermore, the U.S. unemployment rate declined 0.3 percentage points to 5.8% in May 2021. As the nation recovers from the pandemic, the economies of Missouri and other states will likely to do the same. And, for those interested in finding a new job in St. Louis, Pacific, Fenton, or other Missouri cities or towns, new career opportunities may be on the horizon.

Tips to Help You Land Your Dream Job

It can be stressful to reenter the Missouri job market after an extended absence during the pandemic. Yet, there are many things you can do to alleviate stress, streamline your job search, and land your ideal role at this time.

Now, let’s look at three tips to help you identify and secure your dream job in Missouri.

  1. Build Your Professional Network

Set up a LinkedIn profile or update your existing one. Ensure your profile gives anyone who looks at it a good idea about who you are and what types of jobs you want to land. Reach out to former coworkers and superiors and connect with them on LinkedIn as well.

Join LinkedIn groups, too. These groups allow you to engage with like-minded professionals across your industry. Plus, they can help you grow your professional network.

Don’t forget to participate in virtual and in-person job fairs and other networking events, either. These events often have attendees from Missouri companies that want to add top talent as quickly as possible.

  1. Conduct Research

Learn about temporary and permanent jobs and other types of roles available in Missouri. In addition, pinpoint your ideal job and employer. From here, you can tailor your job search accordingly.

Oftentimes, it helps to set up Google Alerts to stay in the loop when Missouri jobs that match your expectations become available. You can also use these alerts to get updates if a Missouri company you want to join publishes a job posting.

  1. Improve Your Skill Set

Enroll in online classes and training programs. You can use these educational courses to enhance your skill set from the comfort of home.

Finally, take advantage of workshops and other learning opportunities available across Missouri. Every opportunity you embrace can help you build your skill set. Ultimately, each one can help you move closer to landing your dream job.
